Recently, I pulled a magazine from my mailbox and realized how thin the publication has become.? In both size and content, it?s a shadow of its former self.? Then I remembered that I had not paid for the magazine in more than two years.? I let my subscription lapse because I felt that I wasn?t getting a lot from the content.
I?ve been surprised to keep receiving the magazine.? I?m assuming that this is being done so subscriber numbers can be maintained for ad rates.? Not long ago, I declined an offer for a subscription, plus online exclusives for $1 a year.
I didn?t investigate the offer.? I had a feeling that it would come with a catch, like a high, automatic renewal rate.? Whatever the case, I perceived the pain of the deal to be higher than any potential pleasure.? I?ll scan the magazine when I get it but if it stopped coming, I wouldn?t miss it.
For some many magazines, they no longer are an exclusive source of information.? The market has changed but the magazines haven?t.? This is another great reminder of how business can change over time and how successful organizations must be prepared to adapt.? Otherwise you?ll become unnecessary.
