Bring out your inner child to improve productivity. In any child’s life, there comes a moment when he or she discovers questions. And all of a sudden you, are barraged by all these different questions.
Why is the sky blue? Why do we buy this car? What will we be doing later today?
Lots of questions hitting you all at once. It can be a little overwhelming. Big props to all the parents out there.
In your job, though, you might want to be a little bit of a child every once in a while. Because when you ask, “Why?” you may discover that you are doing some processes or activities that no longer fit what you need to do. Your big picture goals.
You’re doing them simply because you inherited them. So if you go through your day and go, “Well, why do we do that? Oh it’s because of this, this, and this. Oh but it turns out one of these things doesn’t apply anymore, so we really shouldn’t be doing it.”
Boom! You can eliminate that activity.
Asking, “Why?” it’s not that you’re trying to tear things down but make sure certain activities are still profitable and productive for your organization. Asking why can open the door to improved productivity.
