Video Transcript: How to Stop Working on the Weekend

Be careful if your employees work on the weekend. I came across a recent study that made me nervous when it comes to working on the weekend. It found that roughly seventy percent of the respondents spent at least one weekend a month, taking care of work.

This is where it gets even more scary because a lot of them found they were working up to nine hours during that extra day of work. Every once in a while, we all have to put in some extra time on the job and sometimes on the weekend you can get more done because it’s quieter and you could focus a little better.

But if you’re starting to add on a regular basis, extra days of work, it’s going to catch up to you and your productivity is going to start to fall. So I want you to consider why are you having to do the work on the weekend?

Is it because there’s a Monday deadline right away on Monday? Is there any way that deadline can be changed? Allowing you forty eight hours to rest and recuperate?

Also, is it possible to prioritize your work so that if something is due, that’s very important or unexpected, you’re able to put other things aside so you can give it one hundred percent focus, catch up with the other things later. Again, we’re trying to protect your weekend.

Sometimes you have that good productive employee and over time they start to take on lots of little tasks. They just inherit them. They start to add up and before long these things take up a lot of their time.

You need to see if that person still needs to be doing all those tasks. If some of them can be given to other people, maybe some form of automation can replace them. The idea is free up the time that allow someone to focus on the important work Monday through Friday.
