Video Transcript for The Stay Interview: Great Employee Retention Tool

Ready to say goodbye to some of your top performers. If not, then consider this interview. Have you heard of the stay interview? It’s not a job interview and is not an exit interview. It fits in between. It’s also not an annual review.

The stay interview is about talking to your employees, especially your top performing ones and checking in and seeing how they’re doing on the job. Are they still engaged? Are they excited to come to work? What makes them excited to come to work? What makes them, when they wake up, want to get out of bed and just race into the job?

That’s the type of engagement you want to see from your employees. The stay interview is designed to see if someone’s maybe starting to look for greener pastures. They may think, “Oh I’ve hit the ceiling in this position, I’ve got to go elsewhere.”

You may be totally unaware of these feelings and you may have some new and exciting projects or a different role for a good employee that you don’t think about unless you talk to the person, check in, and see how they’re doing.

This is extremely valuable. You want to hold on to your top talent. Remember, it costs a lot to find someone new and it costs a lot to replace good experience.

Most employees will not tell you if they’re starting to lose interest in their job. They’ll they’ll just leave. Use the stay interview to make sure your tops talent sticks around.
