Video Transcript for Nervous About Change on the Job

If you feel nervous about trying something new, then think about playgrounds. Maybe it’s time to start something new. You realize that your old solution, while good, just doesn’t work anymore. But you’re a little nervous about the change

So what do you do?

In these instances, I remind people about playgrounds. Do you remember when you were a kid, you would go to a playground and go to town. You have all sorts of fun on it.

At my elementary school, there were several playgrounds and they were set up for your age. So kindergartners, first graders, they were on a certain playground and the equipment, the swings, and everything, the jungle gym, they were designed for kids of a certain age.

Now, they were good, they were fun but by the time you got to third or fourth grade, you had outgrown them. It was time to move to a better playground. One that, a little more challenging, a little more fun. Fits your needs better.

Nothing was wrong with the old one but it was just time for a change.

Well, think about that in your business. Because sometimes the solution you are leaving is not necessarily bad. But you’ve just outgrown it.

Change isn’t necessarily bad or good. Sometimes it’s what’s needed. And before long, when you’re on that new playground, you’re going to forget about the old one. And before long, you may be looking for a bigger playground to go to down the road. Enjoy whatever playground you’re on, and don’t be afraid to outgrow it.
