A man and a woman go to dinner on a first date.? They agree to split the bill.? At the end of the meal, the man pulls out a buy one, get one free coupon and announces that his part of the bill is covered.
As you might guess, there isn?t a second date.
Some may feel the same way after hearing the recent announcement that Oprah Winfrey was taking her 300 person studio audience on a 10-day trip to Australia.
It turns out that the all-expense trip isn?t being paid for by Oprah.? Instead, the Australian Tourism board, which is funded by taxpayers, will pay about $2.7 million to bring the audience and the program Down Under.? Members of the board say the expense will generate a ton of publicity for the country.
So does this revelation make Oprah seem less generous?? Most criticism seems to be related to the idea that a rich person gets a deal that the rest of us could never enjoy.
Sexy offers can generate a lot of business but they can carry a backlash of negative publicity.? When offering a great deal to your clients, make sure it can stand up to possible criticism.
Full Disclosure: I’m not the man in the dating story. ?I am available for Oprah’s trip should an invitation be extended.
