Video Transcript for Create Interactive Training
You don’t want your training to be nothing more then one way communication. You’ve got a new way of doing things and you need your team to really embrace the idea and run with it. But how do you make sure that they’re going to buy in, do it, and keep doing it? And not fall back on the old way of doing things?
Well, you hold a training session to explain the reasons why you’re making the change. And you tell people what they need to do. But are you just getting blank stares? You’re not sure if people really get it.
This is when I think it’s very good to introduce a little bit of interactivity to your training. Get people into more of an active role, and see if they can even help you even improve the process.
Now sometimes interaction can be very simple. You explain the concept to everyone and then ask for some volunteers to explain it back to you.
This make sure you’ve explained it properly and you may see they have some better ways of saying it. Hey, if you can improve the verbiage why not? Go for it.
Maybe you could add a little bit of a game show element to the training. Where people have to get creative and maybe have a chance to win a prize. You break people into teams and maybe you say, “Okay, whoever explains this new process in as few words as possible, guess what, you get a prize.”
The idea is that people are thinking about the process and not just listening to it. Maybe it’s going in one ear and out the other. Another fun thing you can do, have them come up with a slogan or an acronym for the training or even a little a skit that explains it.
Now sometimes this may seem corny but the idea is you want to create stickiness in the brain and make sure people embrace that new idea. Have a little bit of fun, add some interactivity, and improve your training.
