Video Transcript for Feeling Overwhelmed at Work?
You need to be on the lookout for signs that your employees are becoming overloaded at work. I’ve noticed that when employees start to get overwhelmed at work, they start to make little mistakes.
These are good employees, they do a good job. But they get a little forgetful. You’re like, did you get enough sleep? Is there something wrong? It’s just that they’re overwhelmed.
For instance, sometimes when I’m burning the candle at both ends, I’ll walk up to my house, be ready to unlock the door, and I’m using my car remote to do it. Little mistake. Doesn’t harm anyone.
But sometimes mistakes at work can be bigger and more costly. It’s important for employees to recognize the signs of being overwhelmed at work and learn how to take action steps to protect their time and their productivity.
For instance, if you’re constantly racing around, maybe you need to take a few minutes, even just ten minutes, and slow down. Think about what you’re doing, why you’re doing it, and if it’s really important.
Along those lines, you may be able to prioritize your workload more and decide, gee, this activity is taking a lot of my time. I need to spend less time doing it, stop doing the activity, or see if someone can help me with the activity.
See what we’re doing here? We’re trying to help you gain control of a schedule.
I don’t want you to think that asking for help is a sign of weakness. So it’s better for them to ask for help, receive it, than to struggle alone, not get work done, or perhaps do the work poorly.
From time to time, we all become a little overwhelmed at work. Learn to recognize the signs, take action steps that will improve your productivity, your performance, and keep you smiling.
