I’m not trained in medicine but I know there are some important voices in your head. Relax, we all have voices that are in our head and sometimes it can be really helpful.

When I worked in TV news, I had them all the time. They came into an earpiece. It was a producer giving me time cues, telling me additional information about a story, or maybe saying, “Ken, your jacket… make it a little straighter.

Inside your head you’ve got some great resources and great voices. Pay attention to them.

You’ve been told some sort of policy, maybe about branding at your job. But you’re tempted to take a shortcut. But then you hear that little voice in your head, saying, “Ken, you have to do it this way because we made a commitment to branding.”

It’s like when you try to cross the street and you hear your parents saying, “Look both ways.” They told you that so many times, it’s ingrained your mind,

Sometimes the advice is tough to hear but it’s things that we need to hear. When I was working in news, we’d be out in the field. My photographer and I, we’d set up a live shot and the producer might say “Ken, can you change the shot a little bit?”

Now this meant doing extra work. We were under the gun already but I realized that producer was seeing something that might make me look bad or just didn’t work well for the story. So we change it.

And one of the most important voices in your head, we’ll it’s yours. Think about the advice you give to other people. Do they trust what you have to say? Do they think you’re a good resource?

I’m guessing they do but do you listen to your own advice? Very often comes to ourselves, we tune it out.

Make sure you treat yourself like you would treat a good friend or a good coworker. Listen to the advice that you would give them and follow it for yourself
