As a culture, we don’t like to talk about failure. It’s easy to applaud the successful and wonder why we can’t enjoy the same outcomes.
When you’re failing, you’re not getting what you want. You can often tell that you’re creeping toward bad times but you may feel powerless to stop.
I’ve found that failure is usually something that is earned. You’ve made choices or decisions that put you in your current situation. Let’s clear your path of some common failure traps:
You Got Complacent
Do you find yourself saying things like you’ll start exercising tomorrow, one day you’ll improve your job skills, and maybe you should pay more attention to your significant other? These are all signs that you got comfortable.
You may still think of yourself as an in shape, well trained, and romantically attentive. But not everyone else will. Stop thinking of all those things you want to do and start doing a few of them. Don’t become the restaurant that mostly serves excuses.
Choices Come With Consequences
If you drive a Hummer, then you shouldn’t complain about the cost of gas. If you buy things that are cheaply made, don’t be surprised if they break. And if you like to drive fast, then you’re more likely to get a speeding ticket.
If you’re falling into a lot of these scenarios you’re not taking a long term view of your life. Pick a goal and then work backwards to come up with a plan.
You Don’t Learn From Your Mistakes
You are guaranteed to fail at something in life. It’s how you come back from failure that defines you.
Are you willing to put in the time and effort to enjoy a better outcome? Keep in mind that the outcome may not be the success you imagine. But doing nothing will certainly leave you, your business, and your relationships in a state of failure.
