Video Transcript

Athletes do it, musicians, and other high performers. So do you have a success reset. You see it all the time in the world of sports. A tennis player just before serving. A basketball player just before shooting a free-throw.

You see a ritual performed by the athlete. The same thing done every time, just before the action is performed. It’s a way to mentally ground yourself and focus on a task.

So, could you do a similar thing on the job? Take a moment, every once in a while, to effectively bounce the ball. Focus your mind. Think about: how my doing today? Am I working toward my big picture goals? Was there an unexpected thing that happened that will require me to reschedule some of my work?

The idea is to take yourself out of the hustle and bustle of the day and just give yourself a quick little break, an opportunity to focus on your day.

This can pay off big time because when you’re frazzled, you tend not to make good decisions. By simply stepping back, focusing on yourself, you can become that much more productive. Get your ritual.
