Sometimes a product of been really busy involves your finishing other people’s sentences. And I know sometimes you got your slow talkers, who take a while to get the words out. You just want to finish it for them.
Resist this urge for a couple of reasons. One, people really value being heard, as we mentioned earlier. Give them that opportunity.
You also don’t want them to not get their message across because you may jump to a conclusion. And you may be thinking about, “What am I gonna say next?” instead of just listening to the person say what they have to say. Consider the remarks and then respond.
It can be a tough habit to break and I know most people don’t mean it maliciously. They’re just really busy.
But really focus on being the best listener you can be. These are all simple tips.
The goal is be the focused leader, who makes a team that much more productive. Don’t become a distraction.
